Pat (dp) Boling was born in Bradenton, Florida, and although well traveled in Europe, Central America and the United States, has lived in Florida his entire life.
The artist's creative career began in the 1970's as a part time professional photographer of weddings and sporting events. Beginning in the mid 1980's he contributed photography to Road and Track magazine. In the late 80's he began working in non-transparent watercolor, pen and ink and guache mediums. Work in transparent watercolors began in 2005, as he studied with PBS's premiere watercolor artist Terry Madden, and attended workshops by local Florida artists, including Ruthie Hyatt and Douglas Teller.
In addition, Pat is a certified Instructor for Terry Madden's Watercolor Techniques.
The artist offers interpretive watercolor paintings, in a loose style, covering such diverse subjects as; land and seascapes, wildlife, still life's, automotive subjects, portraits, and florals. On commission basis, he also creates personal and pet portraits, buildings, and automobile, airplane and boat renditions.
Pat is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society and maintains his studio in his Bradenton, Florida home, where he resides with his wife Kathy and an assortment of dogs and cats.
Unfortunately, many casual art buyers are put off by some artist's lofty and elitist attitudes, ruining their chances to enjoy the art and the process of choosing it. The artist believes that "You don't have to know art; you just have to know what you like", and that patrons should feel comfortable and free to make choices that will please them, which is all that is important in the end.
